Responsible service
Tasting, not drinking to excess
Most of what we pour is between 46% and 60%. The room is set up so that people can taste widely and still walk home steadily.
We hold a premises licence from Leicester City Council and operate Challenge 25: anyone who looks under 25 will be asked for photographic identification, and we will refuse service without it. We also refuse service to anyone already intoxicated, and to anyone buying on their behalf.
None of this is meant to make the bar feel policed. It is simply what lets us pour rare, high-strength spirit for people who want to think about it.
What we do
Standing arrangements
Served by the dram
Whisky is served by the dram. Smaller pours may be available where appropriate, though they cannot be guaranteed. Flights state their total volume so you know what you are taking on.
Water and spittoons always available
Reducing with water is part of tasting, and nobody needs to finish a dram to have understood it.
Soft drinks available
Soft drinks are available to purchase, and nobody in a group is expected to drink in order to take part.
Guidance rather than pressure
Tell us what you usually enjoy and we would be happy to recommend a suitable dram based on your preferences.
Exploring responsibly
We encourage exploration at a sensible pace, and the team will happily stop serving a table that has had enough.
Getting home
Leicester Railway Station is five minutes on foot, and we are glad to help arrange a licensed taxi.
