Laphroaig's identity begins long before the cask: Kilbride water, floor malting and cold peat smoke establish the famous medicinal and maritime core. The stillhouse is configured to retain weight and phenolic power rather than polish it into a delicate spirit. In the glass, that engineering explains why Laphroaig combines iodine-like smoke and coastal intensity with an underlying sweetness from American oak.
